HP

I just bought a new computer--an HP--and I feel reasonably sure that they are trying to make their cover look like Harry Potter. which is only their greatest plan ever. I heart HP. the boy, the books, the movies, and the computer.

In other news, I just recently returned from a conference in New Orleans. I presented a paper--on a book that apparently no one had actually read, but this is just not surprising as my first foray into academia. there's just too much out there, and too many people trying to further the conversation. so who cares if I present and write about an obscure topic in a little known work--well at least it's original--well enough of my rant.

I did get positive feedback on my presenting capabilities--at least I think it was positive--the chair of my session said I seemed quite confident and enjoying myself...he may have been referring to the fact that I tried to mimic character's voices in my paper--apparently, that's not common in the literary world--but let's spice things up a bit.

Speaking of spice, I loved the food in New Orleans and the traveling aspect. maybe more than the conference...hmmm...

Thinking of my next traveling possibilities...

I love that you read in character voices! Even if was just slightly :)

And, it's like I tell Russell, I know a lot about something very, very specific. Which is my research topic. But on the plus side, people think it's cool because it's obscure. Academics might have hipster tendencies.

Presenting a paper at a conference! Big deal. And a good excuse to go to New Orleans. I have done neither--present a paper nor gone to New Orleans.

And I have recently fallen in love with HP! Harry Potter I mean (I am a mac gal computer-wise). Started the first book last December and on the seventh now!
